sunao na mama - nakashima mika

Posted by Chelli on August 4th, 2008

this is what i wanted to become.

nah, i don’t mean that i want to become nakashima mika (although that’s a good thought too, hmmm…) but i wanted to be sunao. sunao means honest, sincere, obedient; meek; docile; unaffected (?!)… i just couldn’t be like that in situations when i should be, thus a lot of what-ifs and what-could-have-beens in my life now. this song just caught my attention on my random playlist (SHAMELESS PLUG: i tell you guys, seeqpod is the best! or at least the playlist i put together there :P)

this song is also part of nakashima mika’s 4th album entitles YES, which was released march 14, 2007 ( i have a thing for white day, yeah i know) and is the theme for NTT docomo’s 2-month campaign “sincerity,” hence i titled the translation as such. although i heard this was her lowest selling single ever, i really like it for its simple, honest lyrics and cool sound. the cover of the single also blows me away…so different from her nana look hehe ^^

sunao na mama cover
i also couldn’t find a PV or the CM so i am going to put up my friend jhona’s version here. she’s the one i mentioned in my previous post…hehe i hope she doesn’t mind me putting her video up here ^^;;

time goes on - L’arc~en~ciel

Posted by Chelli on June 10th, 2008

this post was supposed to be up before i went on my crazy trip to HK to watch the band. anyway, i know there were translations for this before but i can’t find them anywhere anymore as jcentigrade is gone T_T  i was telling rjene how i loooved this song and how i can relate to it…i simply love how everything in this song touches me, especially the lyrics. not to mention tetsu composed and wrote the song hehehe =P

i found a video of the live version from the smile tour and im trying to remember if this clip was from the same night i watched. ahhh~it’s been four years since then, and i’m still not indifferent. i’m not making much sense but nothing ever did when it comes to him.

~my heart draws a dream~

Posted by Chelli on May 29th, 2008

ok, continuation of the l’arc adventure in HK…after the airport chaos, we headed back and changed our money and prepared to meet my awesome friend edith for the much-anticipated tickets! finally i can get my hands on those babies i paid a lot of money for XD when i got them…between the 5 of us, there were 2 seats  in block 3, two seats next to each other in block 5, and a single seat somewhere else in block 5!!! i was horrified that one of my friends would have to sit alone so i had kevin, my former dorm mate in japan whom we met for dinner, decide thru a lottery who gets to sit where. i got one block 3 seat fair and square but the thing is, i didn’t want to let triccie to sit alone by herself throughout the live considering she was nice enough to let us stay for free in her uncle’s house >_< my conscience acted up and i ended up trading my wonderful, tetsu-side, block 3 seat to sit alone AGAIN, FOR THE SECOND TIME i have ever watched a l’arc-en-ciel concert =__=;;

L’arc~en~CHELLI

Posted by Chelli on May 28th, 2008

i know this is not a translation like all my other posts but i need to rant somewhere ^^;; last friday, me and my friends flew to hong kong to watch l’arc-en-ciel perform live at the asia world expo in hong kong. i’ve already watched the smile tour in tokyo back in 2004 so i wasn’t really keen on the idea but my twin sister convinced me to go as they will be on a 3-year hiatus after this one.

okaeri - ayaka

Posted by Chelli on April 26th, 2008

wow…nanka hisashiburi da ne ^^;; i’ve been very busy (and still is and will be…) so i haven’t had the chance to translate for a while. this song got stuck in my head because of fuji tv’s newest drama - zettai kareshi aka absolute boyfriend!!! i have the complete manga with me and i never thought they’d make a drama out of it, with mizushima hiro (nanba of hanakimi) and hayami mokomichi (from gokusen 2 and densha otoko) as the lead guys in yet another love triangle. i literally screamed my head off when i found out they were going to star in the drama adaptation of watase yuu’s (of fushigi yuugi fame) work.

the expression “okaeri” is used in tandem with “tadaima”, when somebody comes home. tadaima is roughly “im home” and okaeri is “welcome back”…these are two of my favorite japanese words. just hearing them exchanged can evoke warm feelings inside of me. imagine a hottie like moco-moco welcoming you home after a hard day’s work *goes on daydream mode* anyway, even ayaka says this about her song, 「”welcome back.” just that single word and my heart is satisfied, and i can think that i can do my best tomorrow. having said that, to have someone waiting for you, a place to go home to, is a very happy thing.」

now this translation is realllly a BETA version, as the single is yet to come out on may 14,  there are no kanji lyrics for this one and i had to transcribe it myself ^^;; so pardon the incorrect lyrics and translations, i couldn’t even tell if ayaka was saying “sweet home” or “sweetheart” for the choruses hahaha^^;; i’ll correct this as soon as i find a decent copy of the kanji lyrics, ok? meanwhile here’s the cute ending theme from episode 1 *goes off to order her own risou no kareshi*

aoi benchi - sasuke

Posted by Chelli on March 24th, 2008

i think my baby has finally given up on me.

after almost four years, my baby aka iPod has finally died on me for the last time. it’s died several times before but i managed to resurrect the poor thing just to abuse it again ^^; it’s pretty old, doesn’t play videos and has no color yet but i still loooove it because it has so many songs i’ve filched out of my friends’ pcs when i was in japan. i guess i have to buy a replacement for it now but some of the songs in there were really irreplaceable T_T

since i’m pretty sad, i decided to translate another sad song from my (now defunct) iPod. i didn’t hear anything from these guys called sasuke after their first album “smile” so i think they might have been just a one-hit wonder.  i remember buying the album for my host brother in hokkaido when it came out since he loved the song at the time and when i went back to tokyo, my host mom said he’s been practicing it on the piano. i really hope i can listen to his version of this song…

wow, i’m getting even more sentimental so i guess i’ll leave you guys with the video and the translation. enjoy while i mourn my baby a little more =_=

oyasuminasai - aiko

Posted by Chelli on March 14th, 2008

first of all…happy white day! this day always brings back special memories of my last day in japan and since i’ve recently spoken to that person after a long time of not talking to each other i just felt like translating a song. i’m just really glad to know he’s happy now and we could still talk the way we did before. i heard this song today and it reminded me of him so i’ll make this my advanced birthday present then =)

my sempai sung this song in karaoke the first time i heard it and i fell in love with it even more after downloading aiko’s entire discography. this is from her 2002 album aki, soba ni iru. yeah i know it’s another heartwrenching breakup song from aiko but her songs aren’t all sad..it’s just the songs i choose to translate hehe ^^;

for the last time, donna uwagi yori mo anata ga, ichiban atatakai yo. ironna imi de daisuki datta.

hitorigoto mitai ni kimi wo aishiteta - dorlis

Posted by Chelli on March 6th, 2008

this post is a tanjoubi present to my ever faithful tasukeaite - RJENE!!! iroiro hontou ni arigatou ne ^__~  she made and hosted this blog so im very very thankful i have space to rant my hitorigoto.  oh, added FYI - this song also inspired the name of this blog.

about the song…it’s included in my thesis playlist meaning i was listening to it while writing my thesis two years some time back. it’s also in one of the mixes of guitar and percussion freaks but i can’t remember which mix it was. all i know is that you have to do the standard instead of beginner level so this song would come up. i kinda miss playing while listening to this song T_T  anyway, i had to do transcription aside from just the translation as there’s NO romaji anywhere for this. i had to use japanese google powers to get the kanji as i was really stuck. hope you enjoy and rjene, let’s go for some okonomiyaki soon, ne ^^

hai! moshi moshi…natsu desu! - orange range

Posted by Chelli on February 21st, 2008

orange range is lu~rve! their songs always remind me of summer and very much influenced by their okinawan background. some of my faves are shanghai honey, locolotion, ishindenshin, viva rock and of course, the very tender hana. so when i first heard this song i was like, “is this really their song? 0_o ?” since there’s a girl singing instead of the usual vocalists.

i usually put this on my “umi playlist” whenever i go to the beach…and since i’ll be going surfing tomorrow, i decided to translate this song. it’s full of nonsense stuff but it basically talks about how one cannot wait for summer to come. i loove how you could hear the sea at the start and end of this song and the way the girl giggles like she’s laughing at herself for singing such a crazy song. i don’t know whether she talks about chip or tips in the last stanza though…^^; listen to it here and tell me whatcha think ^__~.

surf’s up!!! ^__^ /
